There's a lot of walking involved, and Johnny complains that "these boots weren't made for walking". Oh, and Johnny's outfit in this scene also has an alternate color that looks a lot like Alan Grant's getup in Jurassic Park, another Spielberg film.Įarly in Chapter 4: Secrets and Lies, Johnny Cage, Kenshi, and Kung Lao are sent to Outworld in secret to capture Shang Tsung. The love for Indiana Jones runs deep in Mortal Kombat 1. Later on, Johnny exclaims, "Holy Ark of the Covenant!" when Raiden first gets his lightning powers, another reference to Raiders of the Lost Ark. The film's director, naturally, is named Steven, in honor of Steven Spielberg. Johnny even gets to say, "It belongs in a museum," an ongoing gag in the Indiana Jones film series. The enemies are Kalima, which is a reference to the chant from that film. The opening scene of Johnny and Adam (an obvious reference to Satipo, played by Alfred Molina in Raiders of the Lost Ark) in the forest is very reminiscent of the opening sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark, but things get a little more Temple of Doom once they get inside.
